The Na Pali coast spans over 15 miles of rugged shore-line on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. This shore line is unique not only because of its sheer beauty, but also because it is not accessible by car.  The only way to access this alluring coast is by a strenuous hike, airplane, or by boat.  While the hike is on my bucket list, this time I went to the Na Pali coast by boat tour.  After seeking recommendations from friends, I chose the Na Pali coast tour with Blue Ocean Adventures.

Blue Ocean Adventures

Blue Ocean Adventures was the perfect tour company for this trip! Because, their zodiac boats are small in size and they can take you in and out of the all of the caves.  Also, the small boat feel also allows for a close community on board, along with plenty of time to swim and snorkel. I have been on larger sail boats of the Na Pali coast and definitely enjoy the smaller tour with Blue Ocean Adventure.

I definitely recommend doing the morning tour, as the water can get choppy later in the day. Morning meet up time from the Kikiaola Boat Harbor was 7:30 am. The boat captain, Cody, warned us that the tour was not for people with poor endurance or back problems. He was not kidding! As we left the harbor and set sail into the water, I got a whole body workout sitting on the side of the small Zodiac boat. Holding on to the ropes with all of my upper body was a workout!

The first part of the boat ride was driving about 15 miles out to the Na Pali coast.  On the way there, we went through the expansive blue ocean.  The expansive ocean was filled with schools of small spinner dolphins. Watching the dolphins jump and play in the water was so much fun! The dolphins came right up to the boat and swam around in all directions.

When we made it to the coast-line, I was amazed by the beauty of the coast and the multiple sea caves that we went in and out of.  Captain Cody provided a detailed history along the way of the tour.  On the self proclaimed “Netflix Tour” he pointed out all of the spots along the coast that were used in movies and TV.  My favorite spot was one of the caves (shown below) where Mary J Blige filmed a  video.

After the snorkeling it was back to the harbor to wrap up the tour.

The Na Pali coast is magical! The blue water and scenic scape is a MUST SEE on any trip to Kaua’i. The coast was stunning and definitely a must- see in Kaua’i! I enjoyed how the small boat with Blue Ocean Adventures let us get right next to the spinner dolphins and in and out of the caves with ease.  “Mahalo” to Blue Ocean Adventures for an awesome trip!
